Mission Statement: (See Web Site For Updated Information)
Beacon of Hope Uganda is now accepting volunteer applications for our 2015 Volunteer Work Camps in Mukono, Uganda. Our Volunteer Program is an immersion program customized for individual travelers, students, professionals, families, groups, or anyone with the desire to serve in rural villages in Uganda. The time you spend volunteering, your destination, and the projects in which you will be involved are all geared to your skills and interests, and the community’s needs.

Beacon of Hope Uganda Work-camps typically bring together a temporary community of 10-20 international volunteers from different backgrounds to provide services to local community projects. The volunteers carry out skilled and unskilled tasks that would not otherwise be possible. The practical work is only part of the main objective. The work is a tool and method to promote inter-cultural understanding and friendship between the volunteers and with the local community.

Beacon of Hope Uganda recruits volunteers for locally-run community, conservation, teaching, health care, building and sports projects, HIV/AIDS, youth work around Uganda. Volunteers are an integral part of everything that happens at BoHU. We couldn’t do it without you There are many ways to volunteer your time, skills and talents to help out. Depending on the season, we always have a list of much needed services which can be provided by volunteers within our projects around Uganda.

The volunteer work-camps for this year will be a wonderful learning experience on many levels, particularly for languages, but also for practical work skills, social and interpersonal skills, geographical and inter-cultural experience, self-awareness, understanding the realities and hopes of the hosting community, seeing life as it is from a wholly different perspective… Tolerance of differences, willingness to share, a sense of humour and a constructive approach to solving interpersonal problems are essential qualities for work-camp volunteers.
The beneficiaries of our projects will welcome you into their community with open arms. You will be made to feel at home and you will taste all the different cultural foods, see their dancing and have the opportunity to join in. The children always enjoy having visitors and will be very friendly towards you. They can take you for walks to see the monkeys and you can learn about the various local medicinal plants.
The program came about in collaboration with BoHU and the under-served rural villages. We are committed to meeting the needs of our communities and place volunteers in programs that have the skills that fit the community’s need as well as the motivation to make the best out of their stay. Simultaneously we provide safe and meaningful experiences for you as our volunteer. If you are interested in participating in our volunteer program, write to us and we will work with you to identify your best placement options in Uganda

Because it is an immersion experience, days in the villages allow for a variety of opportunities. And whether you work in a clinic, school, or orphanage, participate in building or agricultural projects, or simply assist in the day-to-day tasks. BoHU will work closely with you to ensure comprehensive preparation, including both an understanding of the people with whom you will be working, and all considerations necessary for traveling overseas.
